A slow-moving low pressure system and its associated cold front brought heavy rain and a few severe thunderstorms to parts of western Iowa overnight.  Today that cold front will become stationary over northwestern Iowa.  Because of this, heavy rain will not reach the majority of central Iowa, including Des Moines, until this evening.   On Thursday morning central Iowa will see rain. Much of central Iowa will receive close to an inch of rain by early Friday morning.

Expected Rain

By noon on Thursday a wintry mix will move in and begin to accumulate in grassy areas.  Ground temperatures are warm enough that snow will melt quickly and we are not expecting this to cause many travel problems.

Expected Snow

The remainder of the work week will be cool, cloudy, and wet at times as this system moves very slowly to the east.  The weekend will start to warm up slightly, but Spring weather does not return to the state until next Monday.
