Do you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the holidays? You may want to make some time for tai chi.

Tai chi is an ancient, Chinese martial art that promotes physical and emotional well-being.

Kim Johnston started practicing tai chi at her church in 2010. She`s now a certified instructor, teaching others the value of this ancient art.

Kim started practicing tai chi to ease her arthritis. But she`s noticed another benefit.

“I have suffered from anxiety syndrome most of my life with panic attacks.  With this breathing I not only have virtually no pain, but my panic attacks are gone,” Kim says.

Tai chi instructor Lisa Loiola is a high energy, New York native with an Italian heritage. She says tai chi helps her focus and calm down.  Her family can see the difference.

“They take one look at me and they go, `oh, she`s doing that tai chi thing again.` and I say, `yes.` and they just know,” Lisa says.

The five elements of tai chi are earth, metal, water, wood and fire.

In addition to its calming effect, tai chi also enhances balance and flexibility.  Lisa and Kim say more and more doctors are recommending it for all kinds of aliments.
