OMAHA - For eight and a half innings, it looked like Iowa was going to suffer their first defeat at the Big 10 tournament and be sent to the losers bracket. But in the bottom of the ninth, magic struck.
The Hawkeyes scored four runs to send the game to extra innings. The fourth RBI in the ninth inning came courtesy of Devin Pickett, a redshirt junior. It was Pickett's first RBI of his career.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, Iowa loaded the bases and Mason McCoy delivered the big hit, an RBI single to right field and Iowa shocked No. 4-seed Ohio State by a score of 5-4.
The Hawkeyes advance to face Maryland Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
If Iowa wins they advance to the championship game on Sunday. If Iowa loses Saturday morning, they will face the Terrapins again Saturday night for a spot in Sunday's title game.
