The weather has put a damper on all spring high school sports, including track and field.

Many of the scheduled track meets have been cancelled, but practice must go on, next week the best athletes in the state will compete at the Drake Relays.

Thursday at Waukee High School team members were dressed more for skiing rather than running, but they say Drake Relays are motivation enough to work through the bad weather.

“The conditions haven’t been ideal, but with the work that we’ve done we try to make it quality work whether it’s indoors or out and for the most part everybody is in the same boat,“ Coach Brent Heitland said.

Drake Relays get going Wednesday.
