AMES, Iowa – ISU Athletic Director Jamie Pollard spoke to the media Wednesday for the first time since suffering a heart attack in early March.

Pollard suffered the heart attack on March 9 while watching his daughter's track meet at the University of Northern Iowa. Two days later, he underwent triple bypass surgery at the Iowa Clinic in Des Moines.

He'll officially return to his full-time duties overseeing the athletic department at Iowa State next week.

Pollard said doctors have given him the okay to start running on the treadmill next week, and added that the six weeks since his heart attack have actually flown by.

“This has truly been a very humbling and rewarding experience,” Pollard said Wednesday. “The outpouring from family, friends, and community has been incredible. Before this started I didn't think my love for the Cyclones could grow any more, but I can tell you especially after Kansas City, that my love for being the athletic director at Iowa State has never been any stronger.”

Pollard also says he's received a lot of help and support from Fred Hoiberg. The Iowa State head coach just underwent a heart surgery of his own on April 17.
