Boys’ Basketball Tournament: Future Hawkeye Cordell Pemsl Leads Dubuque Wahlert to Win

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa Hawkeyes could be playing at Wells Fargo Arena in the NCAA basketball tournament next week, but right now, one of their future stars is playing in the high school boys’ tournament.

Dubuque Wahlert’s Cordell Pemsl is staying in state to continue his basketball career next year.

Before then, his No. 5 seed Dubuque Wahlert team defeated No. 4 seed MOC-Floyd Valley in the Class 3A quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon, 79-74. Pemsl posted 19 points and 10 rebounds in the win along with a high-flying dunk.

Dubuque Wahlert will now face No. 1 seed Chariton in the semifinals on Thursday night.
