OSKALOOSA, Iowa — Tyler Sash, the former Iowa Hawkeye safety, has passed away at the age of 27, Channel 13 News has confirmed.
The cause of his death is unknown at this time. Oskaloosa police say they were dispatched to Sash’s home just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday, and no foul play is suspected.
His body is in the custody of the State Medical Examiner’s Office and his autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
Sash was originally from Oskaloosa and played at the University of Iowa from 2008-10. One of his career highlights for Iowa came during the Cy-Hawk game in 2009 when he recorded three interceptions.
He also won a Super Bowl as a member of the New York Giants in 2012 after being drafted to the NFL in 2011. Sash was cut by the Giants before the 2013 season.
Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz rescheduled his Tuesday press conference to Wednesday.
