DES MOINES, Iowa- The Earlham Cardinals were tuned back in their first trip to the Boys State Tournament with a loss to top seed Gladbrook-Reinbeck 60-45.  Alan Schmidt finished with 17 points, Canyon Hopkins added 14.

Hopkins, who is a junior, was ready to move on to play again in the Consolation game.  “We’re going to practice to see what we work on, going home to our gym to practice.”

Coach Kevin Williamson knew Gladbrook-Reinbeck would be a challenge. “They were loaded with talent, we had to control shooters, we had to control dribble penetration,” said Williamson. “Our kids fought, and I couldn’t be prouder of them.”

The Cardinal players and coach could not miss the huge red sea of Cardinal Fans who made the trip down I-80 to the Well.  “Our whole community through this whole thing has been fantastic,” said Williamson.  “You could rob Earlham today with all these people here in the bleachers.”

The season continues as Earlham plays in the Consolation Friday at 10:00 am
