AMES, Iowa — Iowa State guard Deonte Burton is beginning to make a name for himself.

For the second week in a row, the Marquette transfer was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. In the Cyclones’ two games last week, Burton averaged 18 points and shot 72.2 percent from the field off the bench.

Burton was also a tidy 5-for-6 from behind the arc.

“I’ve been really pleased with Deonte, just the way he’s come in and tried to fit in,” head coach Steve Prohm said. “I think his focus over the last month has been really good in practice. Obviously, he played well at Cincinnati and at Oklahoma. He’s very versatile and can play a lot of different positions for us.”

With Burton’s strong play in his first four games in a Cyclones uniform, there had been questions on whether he would move into the starting lineup. However, Prohm says he’s not making any changes to his starting five at this time.

“We just need to keep getting him (Burton) better,” Prohm said, according to the Des Moines Register. “I’m not looking to make any lineup changes or anything like that.”
