AMES, Iowa- Jameel McKay used some improved free throw shooting to help ISU gain a coveted on the road win over Oklahoma State 70-65.

McKay gained his first career double double with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Nine of his rebounds were on the offensive glass, prior the most rebounds on offense was 4. KcKay went 13 for 18 from the free throw line.

McKay said he has been spending time shooting free throws before practice. “I want to be better than what I was, I feel; like I should have been 18 for 18, been putting in the work,” said McKay. Coach Hoiberg has given McKay advice. “After a miss take a deep breath and think about all the ones that went in, thats what I’ve been doing an its been working,” said McKay.

“Jameel’s been great he’s really been working on his free throws, and his overall game and you can really tell,” said Georges Niang.

Coach Hoiberg said everybody pulled together. “The thing I liked best about that game was just how engaged everybody was wheather they were on the floor or they were on the bench,” said Hoiberg. ” I looked over there Bryce, Abdul, and Matt, when they weren’t in the game they were up barking out instructions to each other. and that’s what you have to do on the road.” Hoiberg added, “At home you got 15 thousand pulling you back together, on the road you don’t have that.”

I think it was big for us on this road trip to encourage each other’s confidence, I think that’s what you have to do on every road trip,” said Niang. “I think we sort of found our niche.we’re just going to try to keep it rolling.”
