DES MOINES, Iowa - Seeing the Barnstormers in the Indoor Football League might take time to get used to. The only thing that remains the same are the famous goggle helmets. Not one player returns from last years roster. "That can be one of your biggest challenges, but also the most fun getting these guys to buy into the system," says Barnstormers coach, Joe Brannen.
Robbie Nallenweg is the new signal caller for Iowa, but when he first signed with the Barnstormers he had to play recruiter. "We were sitting there all game and I was like you gotta come. He was like 'alright text me the coaches info' and coach Brannen got him out here," says Nallenweg.
He convinced his college teammate and roommate to hop in the car with him and drive 15 hours to central Iowa. The duo from Wingate College in North Carolina have already connected for 11 catches and three touchdowns. "We had a phenomenal connection at Wingate. He set every record in the book so it just carried over from there," says Nallenweg.
Barnstormers will need more of the 'Wingate Connection' when they return home Saturday night at 7:05 to play Green Bay.
