DES MOINES – After just 2 years of existence the AIB baseball program is calling it quits. With the school being ‘gifted’ to the University of Iowa, there will be no more Eagle athletics after this school year.
“It’s sad for me to see everything I talked to them about isn’t going to be true as far as building a legacy,” says Head Coach Chad Harris.
“I wasn’t going to throw in the towel on my Senior season and say I’m done,” says AIB Senior Steven Leverett.
Tuesday was he final home game for the Eagles. AIB beat Grace 7-4, and earned the #1 seed in the MCC conference tournament.
“We all know it’s the last go around, why not make the most of it,” says AIB Sophomore Jackson Davis.
Two years isn’t a long time for a program, but the players say they’ll never forget their time at AIB.
“I’ve never had a better team, never had a better group of guys to play with,” says Leverett.
“I got two years of an awesome bond with these guys, friendships that will last a lifetime,” says Davis.
AIB plays in the conference tournament this weekend in Waterloo.
