AMES — The USATF Masters Outdoor Championships in Ames started fast on Thursday, when 96-year-old Roy Englert set a new world record in his age group in the 5K.

His time of 42:30 smashed the old record of 50:10. Mark Freund caught up with Englert and his wife, Maureen, after his race.
