East-side pride is at an all time high. The Scarlets are back in the state tournament for the first time in over a decade. They earned the top seed this week with a 36-4 overall record. Three more wins for the Scarlets would mean their first state title since 1980.

Twice the Scarlets erased Davenport North leads. The Vikings took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st but East answered with two runs, including an RBI single by Chino Alcala.

The Scarlets finally broke open the scoring in the 5th inning when they hung a 3-spot, but the Wildcats tied the game up in their final at-bat to send the game into extras.

Alcala had a pair of RBI, but his biggest one came in the bottom of the 9th when he drove in Lucas Roberts, the game winning run, to send the Scarlets to the Semifinals.

Colby Carmichael (10-0) earned the win for East, pitching four solid innings in relief, allowing zero earned runs on five hits.

The Johnston Dragons are making their 12th state tournament appearance after beating Dowling in the sub-state finals. Linn-Mar pitchers, Justin Wyant and Austin Stroschein, had a combined no-hitter going into the 6th inning, but the Dragons led 1-0 thanks to 8 walks and a passed ball.

Trevor McCauley ended the no-hit bid in the 6th inning with a double to right. He eventually scored on another wild pitch to give the Dragons a 2-0 lead.

Dragons starter Joe Hawks tossed a complete game shutout, struck out 8, while only allowing one hit. Hawks and the Dragons advance to the State Semifinals and will play, top-seeded Des Moines East on Friday at 6:00 PM.
