DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department is crafting a body camera policy as they test out two cameras to add to the force.
Officers will record arrests, incidents requiring force, pat down searches, traffic stops and other activities with the public. They will record each event until it’s over and document the recording in written reports.
Officers cannot see the video in critical incidents, like police involved shootings, until after a formal statement is given.
Six officers and one detective are equipped with the cameras during a test period.
