DUBUQUE, Iowa — In this year’s summer Olympics, Iowans will be keeping a close eye on the U.S. women’s volleyball team.
27-year-old Kayla Banwarth of Dubuque is one of 12 players to make the roster. Banwarth started playing volleyball when she was four years old.
She played at Walhert Catholic High School in Dubuque and then went on to play at the University of Nebraska.
Her mother is already sporting a Team USA shirt.
“I just can’t imagine watching her at the opening ceremonies,” Anne Banwarth said. “It’s just unreal. A dream come true.”
The opening ceremonies are Friday, August 5, just 23 days away.
