Making your commute a little greener can also be a lot of fun thanks to an Ottumwa company offering the latest all electric motorcycles.
RJ Performance is the first company in the state to offer Zero Motorcycles.
Requiring zero gas, zero oil, and producing almost no sound, it isn't hard to figure out how the bikes got their name.
“I've ridden a lot of motorcycles,” said Matt Burton of RJ Performance. “This is just totally different of a ride,” he said. “You don't have all that noise. You can actually think and experience the outside.”
The light-weight bike runs off of a lithium-ion battery. The battery will plug into any normal outlet and takes about four hours to charge.
The newest 2012 miles have a range of up to 100 miles, according to the manufacturer.
Zero Motorcycles cost anywhere from $7,695 to $13,995 dollars depending on the model.
Iowans who purchase one are eligible for a 10-percent federal tax credit.
That tax credit expires at the end of the year.
