An Iowa woman is going down in the record books. Christa Hanson of Kanawha, created the world’s largest paper snowflake.

Guinness World Records recently verified that the giant 14 feet 6 inch snowflake was a record breaker. Hanson created it in front of a cheering crowd at the 2012 Kanawha Labor Day Festival in just under 45 minutes.

In order to qualify for the Guinness record, the creation had to be a perfect scaled-up replica of the small paper snowflake which was sent to them with other verification evidence.

“Considering the average paper snowflake is only 8 1/2 inches wide, producing one that was over 14 feet wide was both a logistical and a mathematical challenge,” Hanson said.

The next challenge is to figure out how and where to permanently display the snowflake, so that visitors can have their picture taken next to the largest paper snowflake in the world.
