Woman Shot in Leg Near Downtown Pedestrian Bridge

DES MOINES, Iowa – Des Moines police are investigating a shooting that injured one person early Thursday morning.

Police say 23-year-old Ta-jya Cason was taken to Lutheran Hospital around 3:21 a.m. by her brother and two friends. Cason had been shot in the thigh.

When officers arrived at the hospital they spoke with one of the people who brought Cason in. She told them they had been hanging out on the east side of the pedestrian bridge, the one by Wells Fargo Arena, when the shooting happened.

According to the police report, the woman wouldn’t give police her name because she didn’t want to be involved. Cason’s brother also told officers they were asking too many questions.

Police did find shell casings on the east side of the bridge.

Police say the witnesses and victim have not been cooperative and they don’t any suspects in the shooting.
