DES MOINES, IOWA –The largest quilting membership organization in the world will celebrate its popular American Quilter’s Society’s QuiltWeek event in Des Moines starting this Wednesday.
“There will be a whole lot of quiltin’ going on this week,” said Katherine Rupp, marketing director with AQS.
The Des Moines AQS QuiltWeek will run from September 30 to October 3 at the Iowa Events Center.
“Des Moines is one of the most delightful and artistic communities we go to,” said Rupp. “There is a huge amount of talent here.”
“It’s a very strong quilting community,” said Rupp on why the metro embraces the event so well. “The people who come are really inspired, they have a lot camaraderie with each other. They come together and make some amazing quilts.”
More than 15,000 people will converge on the Des Moines area to enjoy four days of the best in international quilt and textile artistry.
“I hope they leave here with some new ideas,” says Rupp. “I know most of them will walk away with a whole lot of fabric and some new friends.”
Over 1,000 quilts will be on display, with more than $50,000 in prizes to be awarded at the event for quilting excellence.
In addition, AQS QuiltWeek will be hosting a series of workshops with some of the top talent in the quilt industry and an extensive merchant mart comprised of both local and national vendors.
Admission to AQS QuiltWeek includes access to all special exhibits and the Merchant Mall with aisle after aisle of fabrics, machines and quilting supplies.
