Waterloo police are trying to figure out why someone pulled up to another vehicle and started shooting.
The shots killed a 22 year old man, a passenger in the second vehicle. Police say it happened Sunday morning around 2A.M. in the 1600 block of Broadway in Waterloo.
The victim is 22 year old Shantorio Evans.
Police haven’t yet announced any suspects or arrests.
“We have some general information but this is still an ongoing investigation. There are still people we want to speak with,” said Lt. Michael McNamee with Waterloo Police.
While some in the community may feel uneasy following the drive-by, police say there’s no reason for alarm.
“Any time you have an incident like this, it affects the community as a whole. But we don’t think it was a random act. These people probably knew each other, but we can’t say a whole lot more at this point,” McNamee said.
Online court records show Shaun Evans was involved in a shooting four years ago. He spent time in jail and was released on probation. Police say they’re considering Evans’ connection to that case among all the other leads being investigated.
Evans’ family says he was turning his life around, and was a good father to his young daughter.
Funeral services for Evans are pending the completion of an autopsy by the state medical examiner’s office.
Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers is offering a $1000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call 855-300-TIPS (8477). You can remain anonymous and be eligible for the cash reward.
