Des Moines Water Works says it has enough money to begin work to revamp the park.
The company has collected $200,000 in grants and donations. That will pay a consultant to come up with a master plan for the work on the 1,500 acre park.
“The support from local donors will allow us to take the next step towards re-envisioning Water Works Park,” said Ted Corrigan, Director of Water Distribution. “We hope to build on the enthusiasm and move ahead with plans to reshape Water Works Park into a destination that balances outdoor recreational opportunities with water quality, education and watershed awareness.”
The design will focus on maintaining the park’s natural setting but also offer new adventures like zip lining, paddle boarding and plenty of biking and running paths.
