As Iowans plan to hit beaches this Memorial Day weekend, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is making sure the water is safe.

Tuesday, DNR workers begin testing for bacteria at state park beaches. High bacteria levels could lead to swimming bans or beach closures.

Test results should be released prior to the holiday weekend.

If you have questions about any beaches call the DNR Beach Monitoring Hotline at (319) 353-2613.
