HAMDEN, Connecticut — Likely Iowa Republican caucus participants are leaning more towards one potential presidential candidate for 2016.

In a new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker leads the pack with 25-percent. That’s twice as high as his nearest rival.

Assistant Director of the poll, Peter A. Brown, says “He’s gone from being unknown outside Wisconsin to the hot candidate, poised to become the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination. Front-runner status would make it easier for Gov. Walker to raise money and recruit top talent for his staff, but it also puts a target on his back.”

The fight for second place is a close one. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul gets 13-percent of likely caucus goer support. Physician Ben Carson and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee pull in 11-percent, followed by former Governor Jeb Bush with 10-percent.

None of the other possible candidates received more than five percent.
