Saturday morning, the City of Urbandale celebrated at the groundbreaking for a new memorial that will honor Iowa’s veterans.

Mary Polson, the program’s coordinator said, “The plan is a pavilion of bricks with the veterans’ names engraved, five granite stones with emblems of each branch of service and three tall flag poles.”

Construction will now begin on the veterans’ memorial in the Charles Gabus Memorial Tree Park and Gardens.

The Urbandale Community Action network had received several requests from the community to build a veterans memorial.
