A new ad for the fast food chain Arby’s is ruffling some feathers in Iowa.
In the ad, former New York City Police Detective Bo Dietl, talks about Subway’s meat, claiming it isn’t safe because it’s sliced up at a West Liberty Foods plant in Mount Pleasant.
Plant officials say the plant puts out a top notch product that’s cut up in slicing rooms designed to mimic surgical operating rooms.
An Iowa ad expert says the negative tactic likely won’t win Arby’s any points.
“They’re trying to have what we call a ‘me too’ strategy. They want to jump on the bandwagon of freshness, which is something that generally the public is concerned about right now. So they think that’s going to get them part of the market share,” says market strategist Libby Waterbury.
An Arby’s spokesperson says the ad is being revised to remove the Iowa reference. The revised ad should be in running by the end of the week.
