DES MOINES, Iowa -- Des Moines' sculpture park will soon be looking a bit emptier than usual.

That's because crews are temporarily removing the T8 sculpture.

The sculpture's red paint has faded in the sun since its installation in 2009.

So, the Des Moines Art Center is taking it apart, putting on a new coat, and assembling it again.

Officials hope it will be awhile until its next makeover.

"Red is notorious in terms of fading," said Jeff Fleming, Director of the Des Moines Arts Center. "But new technology is improving every year so the new paint we're using is a little bit better than the last time, and so hopefully the next will be 10 years before we have to repaint it."

Officials hope to have the sculpture reassembled by mid-August.
