MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — A murder suspect remains on the loose after Marshalltown’s SWAT team surrounded a home they believed he may be hiding in Tuesday.

A tip came in that 19-year-old Jose Morales was inside the house at 514 North Center Street. Police Chief Michael Tupper says officials tried to execute a search warrant at the home around 2:30 p.m.  based on that tip.

The home was surrounded for hours by SWAT team members and officials blocked off a two to three block area surrounding the home.

Several rounds of tear gas were fired into the home and warnings were issued over a bullhorn to any occupants in the home.

Officials didn’t enter the home until around 10:20 p.m. and Morales was not inside.

Morales is a suspect in the shooting death of 20-year-old Dedrikk Fisher. Witnesses say Morales shot Fisher January 17th.

Police have been searching for Morales since the shooting. They say he will be charged with murder and going armed with intent when he is captured.
