It has been more than a week since the legislative session was schedule to end, but lawmakers finally appear to be making progress on the budget.

Republicans and democrats set a spending level for the state budget that begins on July 1. Lawmakers decided on $6.5 billion, which is a 3 percent increase over this year.

The spending target includes a four-percent increase in school funding each of the next two years.

The budget is the only thing lawmakers are required to complete before ending the legislative session.
