DALLAS COUNTY,  Iowa -- An Iowa man is recovering in the hospital from surgery after he was stabbed in the back early Tuesday morning at the Dallas County Fairgrounds.

Deputies have arrested the suspect, who is also in the hospital.

Deputies with the Dallas County Sheriff's Office were called to the fairgrounds, just north of Adel, shortly after 1 a.m.

Lieutenant Infante says when deputies arrived on the scene they found Richard Edmunds, 43, of West Branch with a knife still in him. Edmunds was transported by ambulance to a Des Moines hospital where he underwent surgery to have the knife removed.

His condition hasn’t been made public, but deputies say he is expected to recover.

The suspect, Paul Boruch of Indiana, was found at the other side of the fairgrounds.  He was arrested and taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Deputies say this appears to be an isolated incident between carnival employees and alcohol may have been a factor in the fight.

The Dallas County Fair will open Wednesday on schedule.
