Iowa Representative Bruce Braley visited the Iowa Veterans home in Marshalltown to honor the memory of a fallen soldier.

Braley presented Army Specialist Travis Vaughn’s family with copies of the congressional record on Monday.

The Cedar Falls native was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan 6-years-ago.

In honor of Travis’ memory his mother and step-mother collected items for the veteran’s home. “Today would mark the sixth anniversary of Travis’ death, but we’re happy because were making them happy,” Christine Vaughn said. Vaughn’s family collects and donates items every year.

Later Braley traveled to Waterloo to honor two more veterans

World War II veteran Edward Peters and Korean War vet Howard Masters received service medals in a special ceremony at a retirement center on Monday.

Masters received three medals, and says he couldn’t be happier, ”At one time you know the Korean War was not a war it was a plea sanction so we were not very well appreciated when we came home, but this kind of makes up for it.”
