Some Iowa families got their Christmas present a little early today.

The Quad City Patriot Guard Riders were on duty welcoming home our nation’s heroes at the Quad City International Airport.

The group has made it a Christmas tradition to scan passengers from all incoming flights and honor our servicemen and women as they travel home for the holidays.

They say they’ve had the honor of witnessing many heartfelt reunions as Penny Dixon recalls, “There was a young soldier coming in and he had never seen his baby and so his wife was carrying the baby and he saw that baby and he just went over and picked her up and loved her and I tell you my heart was in my throat.”

They will return to the airport Sunday and Monday sacrificing their time for those who have sacrificed for us.
