DES MOINES, Iowa — The finishing touches are being put on the new culinary loft at the Des Moines Social Club.

The space will be finished this weekend and classes begin in April. The courses are for anyone at any level.

There’s a cooking 101 class, a healthy eating course, a book club class and even yoga and breakfast classes.

“When you look at the arts, you often overlook the culinary arts, and that is one of the main reasons why we are doing this.  If this is a true art center, we have to play to every single discipline. We were not playing to the culinary arts, now we are,” Executive Director of the Des Moines Social Club, Zachary Mannheimer said.

To celebrate the new space, there’s a “Great Pig Out” on Sunday from ten to two.

The Story City Locker donated a 200 pound hog for the event. You can get an all you can eat ticket at the social club’s website for $20.
