POLK COUNTY, Iowa – A snowplow driver suffered minor injuries Wednesday morning after his snowplow was hit by a train northeast of Altoona.

The accident happened around 8:15 a.m. at NE 62nd Ave. and NE 88th St.  Trooper Alex Dinkla with the Iowa State Patrol says the Polk County snowplow was traveling west on NE 62nd and veered right onto NE 88th at the Y intersection. The driver didn’t see the train coming and it hit the snowplow on its passenger side — pushing it 300 feet down the tracks.

The driver of the snowplow was able to get out on his own and had minor injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The train belongs to the Iowa Interstate Railroad.
