DAVENPORT, Iowa  —  A major sinkhole near the Village of East Davenport sent water gushing from under the asphalt Monday morning.

People walking along East 12th Street first saw a small puddle of water around 4 a.m.

Within a few minutes, it grew to a massive hole and three other holes in the road began popping up within half a block.

East 12th Street between Mound Street and Spring Street will remain closed while crews see if the road is safe and to repair the damage.
