ANKENY, Iowa — Des Moines Area Community College announced Tuesday that Iowa-native and internationally famed Dr. Simon Estes will be joining DMACC this fall as a visiting professor.
“We are extremely honored to have a professional of his caliber work with our students. Sharing of his worldwide experiences through lectures, performances, and voice lessons will offer a priceless opportunity to our students to learn from one of the world’s greatest opera stars,” DMACC President Rob Denson said in a release. “Dr. Estes is a true friend of DMACC. We’re excited about this wonderful opportunity for our students.”
Estes remains active in international opera and he currently serves as a visiting professor at Iowa State University. He has also served as a faculty member at Julliard School of Music, Boston University and Wartburg College.
The renowned bass-baritone has given performances for six U.S. Presidents, two Popes and world leaders, including Nelson Mandela. He has performed with Ray Charles, Audrey Hepburn, Johnny Cash and Whitney Houston.
Estes grew up in Centerville.
