People who live in a Des Moines apartment building say they fear for their lives after their building was shot at for the second time this year.

“I looked at the damage and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was like something out of a nightmare,” said Jens Pregler, a Des Moines resident.

“I saw the holes and everything all over the floor and I screamed,” said Tina Ricardez.

Des Moines Police were called to an apartment complex at 1065 21st Street around 6 PM Sunday evening.

Police say the building was hit with nine bullets, five of them going into one apartment.

The people living there weren’t home at the time.

When they returned home, they were questioned by police but didn’t give a motive or tell officers why their apartment may have been targeted.

“The male half of that when given a case card tore it up said we don’t do that. He then walked away from the officers,” said Sgt. Jason Halifax, public information officer for the Des Moines Police Department.

Des Moines Police confirm that a report of shots fired at this building was filed back in May.

In that case, five shots were reported and a bullet was a found in a top floor apartment.
