West Des Moines police arrested an Urbandale Middle School teacher Wednesday afternoon.

Benjamin Hoffman, 23, is charged with 11-counts of sex abuse, one count of sexual exploitation by a school employee and two counts of providing alcohol to a minor.

Investigators say Hoffman sexually abused a 13-year-old Urbandale Middle School student and a former, 14-year-old student at Norwalk Middle School, where Hoffman served as a student teacher.

Police say the abuse to the two girls took place between May and July of this year at Hoffman’s West Des Moines apartment.

Hoffman was also arrested July 15th and charged with possession of meth and marijuana and possession with intent to deliver.

The Urbandale school district sent a letter to parents Wednesday. It says Hoffman has been placed on administrative leave. Adding, “as a district we are shocked and saddened by this news.”
