A Des Moines metro religious leader was in Polk County Court Thursday morning to set a date in his sexual abuse trial.

Forty-year-old Nermin Spahic is charged with one charge of third-degree sexual abuse and two counts of sexual exploitation by a counselor or therapist.

A Johnston woman claims Spahic, who is an imam at the Des Moines Islamic and Cultural Center Bosniak, molested her and her daughter while performing a ceremonial ritual.

A pre-trial hearing in the case is scheduled for October 31st and Spahic’s trial is set for December 2nd.

Spahic has already pleaded not guilty and is out on bail. A no contact order is in place requiring him to stay away from the alleged victims.
