CALHOUN COUNTY, Iowa — The man who shot and killed a Rockwell City police officer back in 2013 will be sentenced to life behind bars Friday.

Earlier this month Corey Trott was convicted of first degree murder. Trott shot and killed Officer Jamie Buenting as Buenting approached a home to serve an arrest warrant on Trott.

It took jurors less than two hours to come to a guilty verdict in the case.

Several of Buenting’s friends and family members will deliver victim impact statements during Friday’s sentencing.

First degree murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison in Iowa.
