A conservative radio host from northwest Iowa plans to announce his U.S. Senate intentions on Monday.

Sam Clovis of Sioux City will hold an event on Monday where he is expected to announce a run for the seat that will be vacated by Senator Tom Harkin in 2014.

Clovis says he has consulted with family and friends about the run. He is a retired U.S. Air Force colonel and former fighter pilot.

If Clovis enters the race he will be up against fellow conservatives David Young and Matt Whitaker.

On the Democratic side Representative Bruce Braley is the only one in the race.
