The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a fiery crash that happened along Interstate 80 Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened in the westbound lanes of I-80 near Brooklyn. The crash report from the Iowa State Patrol shows traffic was at a standstill because of a previous crash, when a semi did not stop.

The semi hit a car and another semi. The collision caused the two semis to catch fire.

Paramedics took four people to the hospital, the driver of the semi that did not stop and the driver of the car and her passengers.

Karen Lorenzen says she was driving the car with her two boys, ages 11 and 7. She says they all scrambled out of the car and ran to safety during the explosion.

Her seven-year-old son received a cut to the head from flying glass but all three are at home and doing OK.

There’s no word on the condition of the truck driver.
