Iowa National Guard soldiers are waiting and preparing for a call to help assist with the recovery efforts because of Hurricane Sandy, which is now a post-tropical cyclone.

“We make sure we have a good inventory of the kinds of equipment we need on hand, the kinds of people with certain skills, on hand, so when they call or e-mail for that inventory or capability we`re able to say well here`s what we`ve got right away,” says Col. Greg Hapgood.

The Iowa National Guard has to wait for a formal request to assist with the storm.

The Iowa Red Cross has already sent some volunteers to help with recovery.
