The Iowa Board of Regents voted to demolish the former Malcolm Price Lab School on the University of Northern Iowa campus.
The decision comes despite a pending lawsuit over whether the Regents even had the authority to close the school in June.
The Regents sought the advice of the Iowa Attorney General before voting Tuesday, and decided to go ahead with the vote.
UNI will spend $500,000 to demolish the building.
The school’s closure came about during UNI’s attempts to slash their budget earlier in the year. Officials said the closure would save the school about $2 million per year because the building was aging and becoming more expensive to upkeep.
