Suspended but still supported.
Players, parents, and students gathered at Lincoln High School Sunday afternoon.
The group listened as senior captains spoke about the incident that led to the firing of Coach Tom Mihalovich.
Players claimed that sophomore football player Dante Campero was never forced to quit the team.
Instead they say that Campero walked off the practice field after refusing to apologize to teammates and complete his punishment of 20 hill-runs, a punishment that players say was pretty standard.
Now the community is hoping that the Des Moines school district begins the investigation and re-instates their head coach.
“He’s our coach and he’s been with us as long as we’ve played varsity. Without our leader, we’re kind of in dis-array,” says Boone Russo.
Lincoln plays their rivals from East High School this Friday night.
Players at the rally say they hope to have Mihalovich in practice this week.
