DES MOINES, Iowa — The public will have an opportunity to meet the four finalists for Des Moines’ police chief next week.

A public reception is scheduled for Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates downtown.

Of the four finalists, three are currently with the Des Moines Police Department. Allan Tunks is a captain and Stephen Waymire and Dana Wingert are both majors.

Michael Davis, the police chief of Northeastern University of Boston, is the only out of town candidate.

William Moulder was the city’s first out of town candidate hired. Moulder says it’s a positive sign having lots of internal candidates make it this far.

“The Des Moines Police Department is growing their own leaders and that’s a good thing,” said Moulder.

The four men will go through formal interviews at the end of this week.
