A Des Moines man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for a crash that killed a teenager.

Michael Lomax was drunk when his vehicle crashed into an SUV driven by 16-year-old Jennifer Garcia on August 28th, 2011. She was killed in the crash and three other people had to be rescued from the burning SUV.

Lomax was found guilty in March of vehicular homicide by OWI and four counts of serious injury by vehicle.

A Polk County judge sentenced Lomax Friday morning. He could have spent up to 45 years in prison if he’d been given the maximum sentencing on all counts.
