MidAmerican Energy says an equipment malfunction is to blame for a power outage in West Des Moines Sunday night.

Neighbors told Channel 13 the power went out just before 6 p.m. The power wasn’t back on around 2 a.m. Monday morning.

At one point more than 4,000 people lost service.

Officials say crews are still on the scene early Monday evening trying to fix that failed equipment.
