Metro pools are preparing for a busy summer.

At the Holiday Aquatic Center in West Des Moines it was training day for their lifeguards.

Every lifeguard is in the process of being re-certified in CPR and other life-saving techniques.

While lifeguards will be on hand in case of an emergency, the pool staff says parents are the best defense against an accident.

“When they’re here being with their child, being within an arm’s reach of that child that doesn’t know how to swim is really important for that child’s safety, and another thing we advocate is just learning how to swim and that goes for people of all ages,” says pool manager Lindsay Kurth.

Both West Des Moines Aquatic Centers will open up Saturday June 2nd for the season.
