WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz visited West Des Moines on Monday and had several comments about illegal immigration.

Cruz has been very vocal about securing the border with Mexico.

Before Cruz’s book signing at Barnes and Noble on University Avenue, he was asked specifically about Donald Trump’s controversial comments about Mexican immigrants being criminals.

“From my perspective, I like Donald Trump,” Cruz said Monday. “I think he is bold, I think he is brash and I commend him for shinning a light on an issue that the Washington cartel doesn’t want to discuss, and namely that is the problem with illegal immigration. Namely that is the refusal of our government to actually secure the border.”

Cruz will also be in Des Moines Monday night and Sioux City on Tuesday.
